Hehe...my first public art competition
After submitting so many pieces in all sorts of forums to gain "points" (lol), I've finally found a place in NZ where they actually hold manga-related art comps.
This year, there's gonna be a comp called 'Doujin-overload' held in Auckland.

I'd rly like your guys' suggestions....
Should I do fanart or something orig?
Fanart = piece with Kagamines, Orihara, etc.
Orig = Akai no Sora
Hoping for the best....
Due date is on the 23rd of July...

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
If you feel confident enough, I'd go with the original work, unless you can do
fanart that far outstrips the original author's work.
The reasoning's relatively simple, with the original work, your own style is being
judged for what it is, with fanart, even if just subconsciously, your work will be
compared to the original's style.
Ultimately your choice though mind.
Good luck.

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
I dunno, I think people get more excited over seeing fanart in comps rather than orig works...amirite?
Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
I have no idea, I was assuming fanboyism/fangirlism didn't play
a part.
If it does, then you can either tailor your work to imitate the
most popular stuff and risk getting lost in the possible sea of
same target fanart, or you could follow my original train of
thought anyway.

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
being unique always makes you stand out.....
i think you should go with your original idea..
unless you can make something really good out
of fan-art(that's diff to everyone else's).

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
I go with original. Plus this is also a chance to advertise our manga.
Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
Would a mix of both be alright...or should I just do pure-orig?
I mean, I could do fanart in my style, but if you rly want orig, I will.

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
I would suggest you do both if you can enter more the one. For one, fan-art so they can compare to the original and see how good it is. Original to see your creative designs and imagination.
Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
Lol....crap. Well, I DO have 'til July to do it.
Okayz then, so I will.
Suggestion for WHO to put in the orig one BD? Since you know 'em
For the fan art one...I'm definitely doing my fave chars, and believe it or not, the ones that chicks like the most xD
Hibari Kyouya, Len Kagamine, Izaya Orihara and Minorin Kushieda.

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
I would have to say Leon and Sheryl since they are the best designed.
Re: Hehe...my first public art competition

Re: Hehe...my first public art competition
Then pick the one best designed... If you got new characters UPLOAD IT ALREADY DAMNIT!
