Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
I play an MMO on occasion called Phantasy Star Online. It's a pretty fun space-based RPG. The original site has been shut down, but a private server bought the rights to the game, revamped it, and re-released it. There's 3 different classes with 2 races and 2 genders each. It's pretty fun for the most part.
I have 3 characters all named Enkil
A Force (the mage class)
A Ranger (The Ranged class)
And a Hunter (The melee)
I just wondered if anyone else plays, wants to play, or has played this game.

Re: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Wow. I wasn't expecting to meet someone else familiar to the series. I used to play that and it was pretty good for the most part. Joining a clan in that game helps you get pretty far along unless you're just that good and don't need any help at all and choose to solo your way through the levels.
For me, I'm a level 135 on the PSO for the Gamecube, so I guess you could say I enjoy it a lot. Someone told me that they made a MMO for Blue Burst, but never seen much about it until I visited their private site and tried it out for myself. Seeing as I'm a PSO fan and have 3 games in the series, I gave this game a try and to my surprise turned out pretty good. You just need a computer powerful enough to run it on so it doesn't slow down for you or you're have a hard time playing it; it's just that big of a community.
Anyway, my favorite PSO game was PSO 1 and 2, mainly because you can get special weapons pretty easily in Offline mode, but there was no way I would ever pay for the Gamecube's ridiculous Online service, so I stayed Offline and enjoyed it nonetheless.
I personally think Nintendo's downfall is a wide selection of online games, which is why I think they would never have XBox 360's type of online service and also the reason why they're strugging in the video game race against PS3 and the 360. I still like the company; they just need to deliver a bit more.
In any event, I enjoyed PSO 1 and 2 the most, mainly in Ultimate mode where it provided some more challenge to me. Since I soloed most of the time, leveling up was a pretty easy thing to do.

Re: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Melee as in close-range attacker. Some weapons in PSO deal more than just 3 hits, like the Daggers.

I wish the combo system was a little more expansive...

Wow... looks awesome, but there is no info on the game there... Thanks for the link - motivated me to search myself...
EDIT: You play on that server? If so, I maybe can download it and go find you - will I not trouble you much if I ask you to guide me a little?

Re: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Agreed. The combo system did feel a bit lacking, but overall, PSO Blue Burst is a great game for the PC. As for guiding you around Eredale, it's pretty easy to get into once you know what you're doing. As a suggestion always go to the biggest area every time you log in. Even though a lot of players come and go in teams to get through a area or take down a boss, the game is pretty simple. You can buy items and weapons so long as you have Meseta, the currency in PSO. You'll be needing a lot of it as you go through the game. As a suggestion when you get stronger, join a clan. It doesn't have to be well known, but joining one helps you learn your way around easier and some even help you train.Enkil wrote:Storm wrote:Melee as in close-range attacker. My character in that game was a HuCast, so I was a Hunter male android. I used weapons, but couldn't use spells and my attack power sky rocketed as I got more level ups.

Actually, all the info you'll need, the download, and how to patch and fix errors is on that site, you just need to look around a bit.
I play on this server, and I'd be delighted to help out. There's not much there you couldn't learn by yourself, but playing with someone is always more fun.

Re: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Depending on what type of person you are, the class you choose should reflect that personality. If you like to be up close and personal, then you would choose a Hunter. If you like to be a distance person and avoid close-range combat at all times, be a Ranger. If you like to support your allies with skills as well as heal them when need be, become a Force.
I prefer Hunters because I like to be right in an enemy's face as well as acts as a shield for the weaker classes. Rangers are pretty good if you know what you're doing and Force are pretty much your healers, although they can learn every skill in the game, they lack high HP and therefore must compensate for that drawback with powerful magic skills, like Grants and Megid.

Okay then... Imma Ranger - always chose ANY type of archers/gunners/whatever-ranged class...
How much is it in size? Don't want to be surprise by an overflow of mad data

Well, it's not huge, but there's a lot to do in the game. There's servers that have up to 400 people on them at a time, and a lot of quests.

No it's not that big. You do need a decent graphics card, but it doesn't take up a whole lot of memory.

Oi! I'm doing you a courtesy, so show a little respect. I don't know exactly how much it takes up, but trust me, it's very insignificant if you have a gig or two of space that your allowed to use up on your dad's computer, I'm sure that's more than enough.

Like I said, it's pretty insignificant. Just to be on the safe side, I'd go with whatever disk has the most space, but really I don't think it's more than 2 gigs.

Re: Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Since you're a Ranger, don't rely on magic much unless it's for healing and even so, you'll need MP restoration items since they don't recover MP from just standing still.
