I actually have no idea, I don't usually pay attention in class, but I think it's something like it sends signals to the GPS receiver to determine what the position of the person is using latitude and longitude and.. yeah

Pluto was counted as one of Solar system's planets till 2004? 2 thousand something (between 3 and 7) anyways, yeah they counted it as dwarf-planet which (i guess) dispells it from the solar system's Planets!
