Games compatibility PS3 of other country

My friend is in United States, I asked him to buy a PS3 for me.
The thing is I don't know if the games of my country will run in a PS3 of other country.. do you know anything about compatibility errors about this?
Example: PS3 from USA, games from Japan.. this will work??

Sony haven't region locked games, but the options there for developers if they want to so you'll need to check it
