Why cant we hide our online status ?

If I remember correctly previously i.e before I had left the forum a year back it was possible to remain hidden...
I wonder why isn't it possible any longer. Shocked

It's still possible.

Go Profile -> Preferences -> Hide my online status.

I still see hidden ppl online...
I just see their name a bit tilted as if in italics....

example me and Alucard are hiding our online status but we are able to see each other...
I can also see Z online when he is online even though he hides his online status.

That's because if you have a member on your friends list you can still see him, even if he appears offline.

Oh ok so for my non friends I am hidden and for my friends I am online.
