As Touhou series are related to many spheres as games, anime, manga, etc., I think that I should put this topic there.

Basically, Touhou is a cross fire shooting game. There are only female characters.
The author doesn't care much about the characters, the main fiesta comes from the fans.
You play -> you see a hint on some kind of a plot -> you hit upon the main idea yourself.
So, the universe of Touhou is some kind of a free fantasy space for everyone's imagination.
You like it, you imagine it. You don't like it, just leave and forget it.
But let's stop the offtopic there.

Oh, and only the main/encounterable characters are female. If you actually do research on the game, you would find that there are as much males as females in there. So there, they're just not getting screentime.
