I suppose that since yes, I am going to be taking part in this, some questions on the format are due. How exactly is this going to be held? A make-your-own-adventure format where the story is 'paused' at key points to allow the players to make a decision?

I'm asking because I am used to free-form playing, where you just... write, basically, and the whole RP looks like a collaborative novel.
