Something I read.
It's not every day that you hear about someone who enjoyed killing someone, but this girl sounded pretty excited about it. She even wrote how she felt about it in a diary.
http://news.yahoo.com/mo-teen-gets-life-possible-parole-killing-141938731.html
I don't want to sound like one of those "she should be put away for life" type of people, but life in prison with the possibility of parole when the murder was premeditated and she had her younger sister lure the girl to play? Come on. First offense or not, she still planned it and knew exactly what she was doing.

I believe that everyone can and will change during their lives, so permanent conviction (death penalty or lifetime in prison) is obese and just wrong.
Normal people won't murder. Sick people are murderers.

Re: Something I read.
Some people can change S, but many of those who kill people don't. Many get off on the thrill of killing people. Some even masturbate to seeing a person in agony and pain and lifelessness.
No one is born as a murderer. Some people have bad upbringings and others get inspired by what they see on the internet. In her case, she planned what she wanted to do, dug two graves, wrote about how she felt about the killing in her diary, and had her younger sister lure the girl to her location. She might change if she gets out, but its unlikely that she will and with minimal success at that.
I can tell you one thing though. She will always be branded as a murderer wherever she goes should get out of prison.

Re: Something I read.
This will sound stupid but why is it second degree and not first? Shouldn't a monster like this be treated as an adult?

The world is getting mad...wait..no,the humans are.
To be honest I'm not so shock.Have heard murder cases like this a few times in the Television, people killing people just for their own entertainment.
She even add "lol" at the end of the sentence.Sick just sick.
"I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they're dead," Bustamante wrote in her diary, which was read in court by a handwriting expert. "I don't know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the 'ohmygawd I can't do this' feeling, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol."

Re: Something I read.
Missouri's law states that she could be as young as 17 to be tried as an adult, but since she admitted to killing the girl at 15 and got sentenced 3 years after, she had her case moved to adult court.
It should have been first degree murder though, but I suppose the presiding judge had leniency on her even though the prosecutor for the case wanted a harsher sentence.
EDIT
S, what if she isn't cured by the time the 30 years are done? Would you release her back into society as if nothing happened or would you keep her in a psychiatric facility?

Imagine having to defend people like this all of the time as their lawyer. I wouldn't be able to handle such a thing.Kapre wrote:Imagine this thing(can't call it person)as your neighbor..

Eh, I don't really see what's so special about that. Being able to kill someone is a good ability to have. Should she live a few centuries ago, she'd make a grand carreer as an assassin or a spy. I feel bad for her, but she did make a lot of mistakes, so the sentence is well-deserved by her. Leaving so many trails and clues...

Re: Something I read.
okay...
everyone's view on life is different. and actually almost all of your attitude, behaviour and actions depend on your experiences and memories. no people can be the same as noone experience the same in life
i honestly dont know what to think. when i read things like this, i try to imagine myself in the place of the criminal
but writing like that in her diary about it is just plain retarded. like she didnt even get what she has done

Re: Something I read.
First degree murder is the highest, it's hard to prove a first degree murder since you can never prove the fact he initially planned the murder, if he did of course it is considered a worse crime than an incidental one or a circumstance that lead to the murder etc.
(even if he admitted, there has to be solid evidence in some cases.)

Re: Something I read.
In Aus if she had done it a year earlier she could have claimed Doli Incapax, which states that someone under 10 can't be charged with a criminal offense and someone 10-14 can claim that when they're that young they don't know the difference between right and wrong.

Re: Something I read.
3 states in the U.S. have their age requirement at 7 years old to be charged for a crime and one state has their age at 6 years old. The majority of the states have 17 years of age being the oldest to be charged for a crime.
